Who We Are
The Black African Australian Nurses Association (BAANA) was established to confront the historical and ongoing underrepresentation, marginalisation, and silencing of Black African nurses within Australia’s healthcare systems.
BAANA seeks to redress epistemic injustice, the exclusion and devaluation of Black African nurses’ knowledge, experience, and voice. By moving from silence to solidarity, BAANA stands as a collective platform for advocacy, empowerment, and transformation.
The association promotes social cohesion by fostering dialogue, mutual respect, and intercultural understanding among all healthcare professionals, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and just Australian society.
